Facial Peels

Facial Peels by Lancome, Elizabeth Arden

To feel good on the inside, it certainly helps to look your best on the outside. Which is exactly explains a woman's fervor for self-improvement. We constantly raid cosmetics counters for beauty aids and the newest products to enhance what we think are our beauty assets and hide our flaws. But, as any beauty expert will tell you, the perfect canvass for make up is nothing less than smooth, even complexion.

Next to Botox injections, facial peels are said to be on every woman's to-do list to achieve such a complexion. But first of all, what is peeling?
A peel is a rejuvenation process for darkness, fine lines, pigmentation, freckles, age spots and scarring and acne. There are two types of peels: chemical, which uses glycolic or salicylic acid and is very mild; and mechanical, or dermabrasion, in which a rotary instrument is used to sand the face.

In today's high tech world, the ultimate quick fixes are the superficial chemical peel done with beta hydroxy acids; and the diamond peel or microdermabrasion, in which a spray of diamond chips or aluminum oxide crystals is passed over the face to reveal the luminous new skin underneath (see related story). Otherwise known as "lunchtime peels," chemical peel and microdermabrasion leave no discernible after effects and there is no recovery time needed. It is likewise one of the top cosmetic procedures performed in Europe today because of its instant radiant appeal. It gets rid of blotchiness and the effect lasts three months at most.

Who is eligible for peeling? Anyone who suffers from a dull complexion, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, superficial acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles and sun damage seen in the form of blotches, freckles and dark spots. According to most dermatologists, people are most afraid of procedures that require downtime and deeper peels. In the case of dermabrasion, longer recovery times - up to 10 days -- is the norm.
Nowadays, there are peel kits available that rule out a trip to a dermatologist. Here we provide you with peels that are quick and easy, and best of all safe, and can be done in the privacy of your own bathroom.

Lancome Resurface Peel

Available in October 2005 at P9,995, a box contains a kit of everything you'll need for a full course of skin renewal. The peel is done in four easy steps, with a numbered product for each step and very clear instructions on the box and insert. After thorough cleansing of the face and neck and a quick wipe with a towelette containing a Purifying Prep Lotion which prepares your skin for the benefit of the peel, the Renewal Peel Cream is applied for 5 minutes. Next comes the application of Neutralizing Wipes to neutralize the acidity of your face, remove excess cream and restore the pH balance of your skin. After rinsing all treated areas with warm water and patting it dry, is the application of a Comforting Cream with plant-derived galactolipids, rose extract, Pro-Vitamin B5 and shea butter to soothe and protect skin.

For optimum results, Resurface Peel should be done twice a week for a month (the kit lasts for eight treatments). After you use up the kit, Lancome recommends you let your skin rest for a month before starting a new kit and new round of peeling.

Elizabeth Arden Peel & Reveal

Arden introduces derm-inspired skin resurfacing in a three step at-home treatment kit for gentle yet effective facial peels with soothing and moisturizing care.

Efficient and non-abrasive, Peel & Reveal resurfaces and revitalizes skin without irritation. The formula contains a natural sugar extract to boost and buffer the exfoliating action of alpha hydroxies. Its alpha hydroxy complex is a powerful yet gentle retexturiser, working within skin to promote exfoliation and fortify skin's natural support systems.

While alpha hydroxies work on a deeper level, beta hydroxies in Peel & Reveal ease away dry surface flakes and help relieve clogged pores. Vitamin-rich Cabernet grapeseed extract, another key ingredient, delivers antioxidant protection to help shield skin from damaging environmental effects. A botanical complex calms, soothes and firms the look of skin. Peel & Reveal is a mask that easily sweeps on with its own specially designed brush and gently peels off to leave skin feeling extraordinarily soft, smooth, and re-energized.

To apply, sweep on a thin, even layer of Peel & Reveal Revitalizing Treatment using a brush, avoiding eye area. Allow to dry completely, approximately 20-25 minutes. To remove, begin by gently rolling at the jawline and continue until it lifts off - virtually in one continuous piece. Sweep off excess with Peel & Reveal Post Peel Finishing Solution. Follow with Peel & Reveal Post Peel Finishing Lotion.

After just one application skin is visibly smoother and softer. Pores and fine lines appear minimized. Skin feels firmer and more toned. The overall look is healthy, revitalized and glowing.
